The Enfamil® reusable tub and refill system not only offers increased value and convenience for customers, but also the potential for significant reduction in the carbon footprint of the packaging involved—up to 35% less packaging materials, 60% less energy and 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions under a typical-use scenario compared to the previous packaging. In additional to the reusable tub, the refill boxes are 100% recyclable.
This innovation in packaging represents one of our core values: Protecting the environment. Mead Johnson is committed to building and maintaining a more sustainable business in order to preserve resources for future generations.
As part of our GreenVision 2020 initiative, our Evansville, Indiana facility uses landfill gas as an alternative to natural gas, a method that reduces net carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions by 24,000 metric tons per year (based on metrics from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) and is equivalent to removing emissions from 4,400 passenger vehicles or the carbon absorbed by 5,500 acres of pine forests.
