Even before the Hurricane Harvey began its historic assault on the Gulf Coast, Mead Johnson made preparations to be able to quickly respond to the anticipated disaster. Prior to any formal company donation, MJN sales representatives in the area were empowered to act by providing sample stocks of products to families and shelters in need.
The company was in touch with the American Red Cross over last weekend. We received the first official requests for formula on Monday and had product on the way to Houston, Texas by Tuesday. Less than 48 hours after the original appeal, 565 cases of MJN products and feeding accessories were being carried into the George R. Brown Convention Center – and main flooding shelter – in Houston. The initial shipment of formula was enough to provide more than 18,000 feedings.
“We are really grateful for your partnership and your ‘spring to action’ following our request to support an immediate need,” said Susan Westerfield, Major Gifts Officer, American Red Cross. “Distribution is planned upon its arrival…(which) will be helpful beyond words.”
With more rain and flooding expected in the area, Mead Johnson remains in close contact with the Red Cross, Texas and other Gulf Coast officials to monitor the evolving situation and identify additional opportunities to be of assistance.
