The forests in the Philippines are critical to protecting against natural disasters, providing a rich habitat for rare animal and plant species, and ensuring clean water and air for surrounding communities. Unfortunately, these valuable areas are in danger – Philippines forests rank as the fourth most threatened in the world, with only 7 percent of their habitat remaining.

The Thailand Ministry of Labor recently honored Mead Johnson’s Chonburi Supply Center with the 2011 Outstanding Award for Safety, Occupational Health and Environment. This prestigious honor is a first for the Chonburi Supply center, recognizing practices that improve the occupational health and safety of the workplace.

In recognition of her efforts to improve the quality of infant nutrition, Deb Diersen-Schade, Ph.D., of Mead Johnson, recently was honored with the 2011 Ralph Holman Lifetime Achievement Award. Diersen-Schade, Research Fellow and Director of Global Scientific Affairs, received the award through the Health and Nutrition Division of the American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS). Mead Johnson announced its own special delivery recently – a new iPhone mobile application called ExpectingBaby.
ExpectingBaby provides a mom-to-be with customized week-by-week updates on her child’s development and helps manage preparations in anticipation of baby’s arrival. The app makes it easy to track and share every moment of pregnancy – from planning and delivery to celebrating baby’s arrival – through photos, updates and milestones via Facebook, Twitter and email.

Mead Johnson’s Enfamil® reusable tub and refill system not only offers increased value and convenience for consumers, but also offers the potential for significant reductions in the carbon footprint of the packaging involved. Under a typical scenario, use of our recyclable tub and environmentally friendly refill boxes involves up to 35 percent less packaging materials, 60 percent less energy usage and 50 percent less greenhouse gas emissions than our previous packaging.

We are excited to welcome another top business leader to our Board of Directors, with the addition of Celeste A. Clark, Ph.D.
Dr. Clark currently serves as senior vice president – global public policy & external relations and chief sustainability officer for the Kellogg Company, providing leadership for Kellogg’s worldwide nutrition, regulatory, communications and corporate social responsibility functions. No stranger to our company, she previously served as a member of the MJN Scientific Advisory Board.

Two grand opening ceremonies were held in Mexico City the week of Jan. 18, one for a new office location for the Mead Johnson Mexico national and Latin America regional teams and the other for the Pediatric Nutrition Institute – Latin America.

In November, Mead Johnson’s supply Center in Evansville, Ind., reached a major safety milestone: Five years without a “Lost Time Accident,” also known as a “Days Away from Work” case (DAFW).
The achievement was recognized during an event at which the Supply Center also received a “Star” award from the Indiana Department of Labor’s Voluntary Protection Program.
