In 2009, we launched GreenVision 2020, our long-term initiative to reduce the company’s environmental impact in the communities in which we operate. Through a variety of programs, we actively drive continuous improvement in energy conservation, waste management, recycling and the reduction of water usage – with results that are exceeding expectations.
As a leading infant nutrition company, Mead Johnson plays an important role in helping millions of families and healthcare providers deliver science-based nutrition to infants and children each day. Our commitment to the world’s children starts with the safety of our team members throughout the world.
In 2014, Mead Johnson continued to post an exceptional safety performance. For example, with nearly 8,000 employees around the world, the company recorded just four lost-time incidents. These results are possible only when a company creates a proactive safety culture that requires the continuous identification and reduction of risks, encourages early intervention programs and empowers its employee safety teams. And while we are proud of this performance, our goal remains the same: a safe and incident-free workplace.
Managing our operations in the most cost-effective manner is simply good business. Every container of trash or shipment of waste to a landfill is not only waste in productivity, but also a waste in the environment.
As part of GreenVision 2020, Mead Johnson Nutrition has committed to reducing our solid waste to landfill by at least 60 percent globally. And in 2014 the company continued to make significant strides in its goal of reducing the amount of waste it sends to landfills.
Achieving zero waste is a tremendous accomplishment. Our manufacturing facilities in China and the Netherlands has done just that by redesigning our operations, increasing recycling and growing the number of sustainability partnerships with our suppliers. And in 2014, Mead Johnson opened its newest manufacturing and research campus in Singapore, which already achieved zero waste to landfill status.
Since launching our GreenVision 2020 goals four years ago, environmental sustainability has become more deeply integrated into our business.
We have made significant progress toward our environmental goals, including offsetting the use of fossil fuels by establishing bio methane programs; implementing water conservation projects; and enhancing recycling initiatives. As a company committed to protecting the planet for future generations, we are proud of our achievements to date and remain on pace to meet or exceed our long-term goals.
