Mead Johnson Announces Powder Packaging Expansion
Project Represents $32.8 Million Investment in Evansville Facility
EVANSVILLE, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 21, 2009--
Mead Johnson & Company announced today that it has selected Evansville
as the site of a $32.8 million powder blending and packaging facility.
The new facility will enhance the company’s ability to respond to the
growing consumer preference for powdered infant formula products.
The new production facility, which will create approximately 35 new
positions, will be housed in buildings located on the Mead Johnson
Evansville campus. Existing space will be renovated and new
manufacturing equipment will be installed to accommodate production
needs. Construction on the 32,000 square foot facility is scheduled to
begin in late 2009 and production is expected to begin in late 2010.
“The new manufacturing capability will allow us to better meet
consumers’ needs and help fulfill our mission to provide nutritional
brands and products trusted to give infants and children the best start
in life,” said Mead Johnson Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain,
Jeff Jobe. “The facility will create greater operational diversification
and flexibility in our global supply chain network.”
Jobe added that the new Evansville powder blending and packaging
operation will be a first for the site, which traditionally has produced
liquid products. The new facility will strategically supplement the
company’s existing powder production processes in Zeeland, Michigan. The
decision to locate the production facility in Evansville was based in
part on tax incentives from the State of Indiana and the City of
Evansville.
“Today’s announcement is great news for the people of southern Indiana.
I appreciate Mead Johnson’s continued belief and investment in our
citizens and community,” said Congressman Brad Ellsworth. “As we work to
turn this economy around, it is critical that public officials continue
to work with our business community to create an environment that will
lead to increased job creation for our state.”
