Mead Johnson Nutrition

Nourishing the world’s children for the best start in life

The People Behind the Science

Every day, Mead Johnson’s Global Research and Development team works to advance the science of pediatric nutrition and ensure the availability and use of high quality nutrition products. Members of the team come from 32 countries, each focusing on their area of expertise – pediatrics, neonatology, gastroenterology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, nutrition, food science and other pediatric specialty areas.

Our research efforts include foundational studies to determine the critical nutrient requirements specific to each age group of infant and children.  This includes in-depth research and understanding of the composition and functionality of human milk.

The team also regularly conducts randomized, controlled clinical trials. Over the last decade, our team, working with academic and clinical colleagues, has published nearly 100 peer-reviewed articles to ensure the body of science generated by Mead Johnson benefits the scientific and healthcare professional communities at large.

Meet Our Scientists

Yung Lee, PhD

Director, Pediatric Nutrition Institute, China

“With today’s new science, we keep finding out how important the first few months of infancy are. Nutrition really has a very long lasting effect, many years after a child passes the infant formula feeding stage. So, there is a sense of pride, a sense that you are contributing to the best start in life.”

Carlos Aguilar, PhD

Director, Global Research and Development, Latin America

“What could be better than going to work for something you really believe in? You leave your house and you get to work and you cannot wait. You feel very energized and motivated because you can have an impact on people’s lives…Maybe the work I’m doing today will save the life of a child or will allow a premature baby to survive and be a happy child and a happy adult.

Mead Johnson is truly a multi-national company, and that gives us a lot of strength. There are scientists working around the world towards the same goal. It’s satisfying from an operations point of view, and I believe this company is equipped to do it.”

Deb Diersen-Schade, PhD

Research Fellow, Director, Global Scientific Affairs

“To really feel that all of our products are providing the state-of-the-art nutrition to help infants with all sorts of needs is very fulfilling, and it’s a dream come true for a nutrition scientist to feel that the research you’re doing has an impact in such practical ways around the world.”

Linda O'Risky

Senior Principal Process Engineer, Global Research and Development

“Our work in discovery takes emerging science – emerging nutritional science – and applies that to our product formulations. Those formulations then are used all over the world by infants and children. That’s a very rewarding opportunity for me here at Mead Johnson.”
